How to line up a rubbish bin without a plastic bin liner is one of the most commonly asked questions. As with so many of the plastic-free plastic-lined dilemmas, there's more than one answer. Use a plastic liner only during the winter. That may not work for everyone, and it's the first step, but has anyone considered not filling the bin with garbage before each trash pickup, and just rinsing the bin out after each use?
I've done it several times, often as part of my weekly garbage removal ritual. I have a bin in front of the kitchen door, with a plastic bag tied to its side. Every time I go in the house, I go through the front door, removing the plastic bags from their special holders inside the front door, and removing the plastics from the bins below. I do this before I even go into the kitchen. I use a cloth to wipe the sides of the rubbish bin down, cleaning it of any crumbs or bits of paper, as well as making sure there are no sharp objects inside the plastic bags themselves. After rinsing the rubbish bins, I go into the kitchen and dump everything ( excluding the plastic bag) into the regular bin.
It's a great littlebign, perfect for ridding your house of some of the everyday clutter. No liner means no sharp edges, no litter, no waste, no worries. Just another way that I'm helping the environment!
